Located few steps from Hotel des Batignolles the Montmartre Cemetery is a charming place in itself, with huge, ancient trees and a jumble of memorials and graves.
As you wander around this tranquil place enjoying the sound of the birds singing, you will see that there are famous names in every area.
The Montmartre Cemetery is one of the Parisian cemeteries which serves as the eternal resting place for a number of famous literary and historic figures from over the centuries. It is built below street level in the hollow of an old quarry with its entrance on Avenue Rachel under Rue Caulaincourt.
